The Marquee Tool is a tool on photoshop that allows one to select parts of an image fairly easily and then edited in so many ways to make the original image different. Another use is to fill it in with color to make simple shapes and lines. There are four types of options that create different areas: rectangular, elliptical, single row or single column.
This tool is located at the top of the Photoshop toolbar underneath the move tool, to make the options available click the tool and hold until a sub menu appears. To select a portion of the image, left click and drag the mouse until you have the size you want, the options single column and single row selects one pixel line of choice. When using the rectangular or elliptical option holding down the shift key will give you a perfect square or circle, making all the sides the same while changing size. A way to edit you selection is to either adding or subtracting from the shape. As long as you hold down the shift key and make a new selection you will add, to subtract, hold down the alt key and repeat the same process. Using these you can make different figures. Once you've made your selection you can now use different features in it, going to the edit menu you can apply fill, transform or stroke to that area. Using the marquee allows you to edit parts of an image.
